D2.2.2. Stakeholder participation in forest sector planning and management
During the development of the Sustainable Forest Development Strategy in 2021-2030 period, the Viet Nam Department of Forestry and Forest protection (VNFOREST) published the draft of Strategy on the then Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD)’s website and sent it to relevant Departments under MARD, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (MONRE) and provincial Departments of Agriculture and Rural Affairs (DARDs) for commenting. Many comments from MARD, MONRE, provincial DARDs and Non-Government Organisations (NGOs) [1] were sent to DoF for finalising the Strategy.
At the local level, local people and communities, particularly people living in and around forest areas, are encouraged to participate in forestry sector protection and management. The forestry strategy, programs and policies have been regularly shared with local people. Many provinces in Central Highlands and South-Central Coast regions, for instance, organized study tours for local people and communities to other provinces for experiences and knowledge exchanges in forest management and protection.[2]
