B2.2.3. Trends in forest owners
● Viet Nam’s Forest Resource Management System (FRMS) compiles information on the status and trends of the distribution of forest types, on areas under the management of different “forest owners’’, and on the status and trends for the distribution of land use certificates[1] (s
● Annually the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment (MAE) announces the national forest situation, in which forest cover is classified by provinces; by the purpose of use; and by the owner type (including organizations, households and communities).[2] The MAE annual announcement draws data from the FRMS, which as noted above compiles comprehensive information on forest resources throughout the country, including forest extent, condition, forest owners, forest types and categories, etc.
● The national forest area that was allocated to communities for management increased from 1,110.408 ha in 2015 to 1,216.982 ha at end of 2019, of which nature forest accounted for 90.97%.[3] In 2023, the total forest area allocated to local communities and households was 1,094,476 ha and 3,115,587 ha, respectively.[4] Data on forest area by forest owners is detailed in Table B2.2.3 below.
