C2.1.3. Respect for traditional knowledge in REDD+
EMLC participation in REDD+ consultation processes: see D2.2.3
Number of REDD+ interventions that support traditional forest management practices and knowledge: The National REDD+ Action Program (NRAP) (2017)[1] includes 6 actions or interventions intended to support the traditional forest management practices and knowledge of ethnic minorities and local communities. These interventions also relate to recognising and respecting rights, and fall under two main work packages:
- Improving forest governance and livelihoods for people who live in and near forest, e.g. developing collaborative management models for natural forests;
- Piloting, evaluating and expanding models of sustainable natural forest enhancement, protection and conservation, e.g. piloting cooperation between forest owners, local communities and private sector on models including NTFPs production.
Co-management, customary institutions and local regulations: Sustainable Forest Management Plans (SFMP) prepared by FMBs at subnational level are developed in consultation with local authorities, communities and people and include reference to local regulations and traditional knowledge; for example, most SFMPs in the Central Highlands include these elements.[2] In the case of the FCPF Emissions Reduction program, traditional knowledge as reflected in local guidance and regulations such as “huong uoc” or “quy uoc” were included in the previous ACMA process for the Program.
