B2.4.3. Outcomes for gender equality linked to REDD+
Gender in the agriculture and forestry sectors nationally:
Viet Nam’s gender statistics are compiled nationally by the General Statistics Office (GSO) is now National Statistics Office (NSO) and provide some insight into progress in the implementation of Viet Nam’s policies, laws and regulations on promoting gender equality.[1] The following information relates to trends in gender equality nationally, including across some relevant aspects of the agriculture and forestry:
● The Gender Development Index (GDI) measures gender inequalities across three basic dimensions: health (life expectancy at birth); education (expected years of schooling for children, and mean years of schooling for adults ages 25 years and older); and command over economic resources (estimated earned income). Viet Nam’s GDI for 2019 has been calculated as 0.997, placing it in Group 1 of countries.[2]
● The Global Gender Gap Report 2023 assigns Viet Nam a score of 0.711 (out of 1, which represents gender parity). This represents an increase on the 2022 results, with the country advancing 11 places in its ranking.[3]
● Data on women employed in the agriculture, forestry and fisheries sector are available in the Labour Force Survey of the GSO.[4] For example, the number of women in total skilled workers in agriculture, forestry and fisheries sector in 2022 was 37.77%, an increase of 2.07% compared to 2019. See Tables B2.4.3a and B2.4.3b for more detail.
